The power of God can be transmitted. And because of the holy Spirit, we can transmit the power from us to others, so we can impart God's grace and power. 

Romans 1:11
The reason for the spiritual gift is to make you strong. One of the ways to impart that, is by laying on of hands. 
You can be made strong by meditating on the word of God, by the ministration of the spirit on your life, and by impartation. 
Laying on of hands is one of the fundamentals of Christ's doctrine.

Luke 24:45, John 20:20-22
He opened their understanding (it's different from a mental thing). Jesus blew on his disciples. As at then, the holy Ghost had not come.  They received the Holy Ghost and got born again after the ascension of Jesus in the Upper room.

Job 32:8 KJV, CJB
The breath of the Almighty gives understanding. So we can impart insight to others when we minister to them.
They would start having understanding and insight into the things of God. 
Joshua had wisdom and  insight because Moses laid hands on him.
Because so many misunderstand the scrioture, they use terms that are misleading. Using the term 'anointing' wrong is a great disservice to the body of Christ.
You will never get another anointing after you receive the holy Spirit. 
There is a difference between the OT and the NT. A Christian cannot live in the OT. Your language will be different and the results of your life will be different. You would be struggling. 

In the NT, you receive the holy spirit to live in you. All of the Him lives in you. They didn't have that in the OT. The Holy Spirit only came on them and may have filled some temporarily. 
Exodus 31:1-4
The Holy Spirit can make you a success for life. The holy Spirit can give you skill.
2 Tim 1:6- The gift of God can be imparted by the laying on of hands. Stir it up
.if you don't stir it up, it will never be manifested. 

Acts 19:
When he laid hands on the them, the holy Ghost came on them. 
Every Christian must be anointed with the Holy Ghost. 

Romans 8:11
Is the holy Ghost living and active in you?
The Holy Spirit comes into your life to announce the kingdom of God. .he does not come into your life to be silent.
