Opening Prayers : Rev. Chris Oyakhilome DSc D.D
You are welcome to today’s program. This is the first for the month of February, and it will continue tomorrow and the next.
Psalms 65:1-2, 5-7
Psalms 18:3-15
Psalms 55:16-22
As we begin our session of prayer, ponder on these things. We begin praying for the nations and their leaders. Don’t just pray for the name of the country, pray for the people of that nation. When we pray, God looks at our hearts, he’s not picking our words. Words have their place, but the heart is more important to God; also your heart is where faith is, and doubt could be. With fhe heart man believes to righteousness. “Believe “is the verb of faith. To believe is to act your faith. So when the Bible says “with the heart man believes” it means Faith comes from the heart, and is expressed in words. 2 Corinthians 4:13. You believe first, then it comes out in words. Your faith is expressed in words. You could also say the same words without believing.
Mark 11:22 the margin says “have the faith of God”.
Mark 11:23 faith comes from heart, doubt also comes from the heart. If you don’t doubt you will have whatsoever you say. So he tells us to watch our hearts, “guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life”. You have to keep fear and doubt out because we have the same spirit of faith.
Mark 11:23
These are the words of Jesus. When you pray (now), you believe (now). What should you believe, believe that you have received what you prayed about.
1 Timothy 2:1 this is our priority, these four categories is what we pray for all men. When you pray for them you are praying for the peoples of that nation. It stirs love in your heart for the people of those nations, and not just praying for the nations like their spaces. When you pray like this, you have love for them. You pray for kings and all those in authority. God says you want a peaceable life in godliness and honesty, then pray for the peoples of the world and their leaders. Prayer of petition, intercession, thanksgiving, making requests with joy. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our savior. You pray that they come to the knowledge of the truth, so that they will not be deceived. Pray against deception in the nations. Pray that they come to know the truth.
What is the truth?
John 14:6
Jesus calls himself the truth…
John 17:17 Jesus said “thy word is truth”, and he is the living word, so he declares I am the truth. And he wants the nations and their leaders to come to the knowledge of the truth. The truth is the word of God, and Jesus is the living word, therefore, he is the truth.
Pray in other tongues. Pray everywhere. Call your friends, tell them it’s time to pray. Don’t find yourself sleeping.
Philippians 1:6
We can read this portion from the NIV, it says “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”.
He started the good work in you, and it began when the Holy Ghost entered into your life.
Now this is day one, we have two days to go. Usually when you start on the first day, we pray like this because we have a lot to cover. Remember you are supposed to have moments of prayers, because we are fasting and praying, before we come together in the evening. It’s very important; and while you’re at be confident that he who has begun a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Something to be observed between the KJV and the NIV’s word arrangements: The KJV says , “until the day of Jesus Christ” and the NIV says “until the day of Christ Jesus”; so is there a difference between the two? No! Christ is a title. So whichever way it is arranged, it’s the same. The angel said “he name shall be called Jesus”.
So don’t let these little things confuse you. It’s just like “Holy Ghost” and “Holy Spirit”. “Ghost” was not an accurate description, but in many languages, the word for ghost is used for spirit, and so the KJV adopted same and translated Spirit for ghost. The accurate description is HOLY SPIRIT. Holy Ghost is king James.
In languages where they don’t have words to translate spirit, they use the word Ghost. And in order to distinguish between ghosts, to use the prefix “holy”, so you have the ghost that is Holy. But that isn’t his name. Even Holy Spirit is not his name. What is his name then? He answers to the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit, who is the spirit of God, answers to the name of Jesus.
Matthew 28:19
Here he didn’t say in the names of, rather he said in the name…and that is the name the disciples baptized people by, the name of Jesus.
“He gave him a name, that is higher than all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow….” Meaning he vested all his authority into the name of Jesus. The authority of the father, the authority of the son and the Holy Ghost is vested in the name of Jesus. So when you call the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit goes into action, he responds to the name. He is the doer of the word. The Lord Jesus ascended into Heaven, and we have the Holy Spirit here with us. When we pronounce the benediction, we say “The fellowship (communion) of the Holy Spirit.” Our fellowship is with the Holy Spirit. The father and Jesus is in heaven. Through the Holy Ghost we enjoy the presence and ministry of the father and Jesus. Through him, the reality of the father and the Lord Jesus dawns on our spirit. Remember Holy Spirit is not his name, he answers to the name of Jesus.
